The Steigenberger Kurhaus Hotel in The Hague

Last weekend it was all about luxury. Who doesn’t like to be spoiled from time to time? The huge Steigenberger Kurhaus Hotel located at the seaside is, without joking, one of the Dutch national monuments. Every child in the Netherlands knows the name Kurhaus and everyone in the country is very proud of it. My boyfriend, who is Dutch, knew the Groupon deal is worth every penny and now I understand why…. :)

Upon arrival, we were welcomed by a very friendly hotel receptionist who's very first words were "You arrived too late for the dinner, which was in your deal package but no problem we will be happy to postpone it for tomorrow!" What a way to start our great weekend! (btw, the dinner next day took place in a luxurious Kandinsky restaurant with a view overlooking the sea) ;)

The history of the Kurhaus Hotel dates back almost 200 years. It was first opened in 1818 as a wooden beach house and throughout the years transformed into a luxury sea side resort with more than 100 rooms, two restaurants, various halls, including a concert area. Many famous people from all over the world stayed over in this place while visiting Holland e.g Bon Jovi, Rolling Stones, Edith Piaf, of course the Dutch royal family members.

It is very noticeable that the Kurhaus is all about attention to detail. We stayed in a somewhat small but very clean, nicely furnished and comfortable room. The breakfast in a magnificent hall with crystal chandeliers and an impressive historic ceiling each morning consisted of everything you could possible ask for: a variety of freshly backed bread, toasts, croissants, cereals, fresh fruits and fresh juices, yoghurt, eggs and different sorts of tea and coffee. A great start of the day!

Worth to mention is the nice surroundings of the hotel, that offers something for everyone at any time of the day or night. We did a bit of shopping, sightseeing and chilling out at the outstanding Scheveningen Boulevard in the evening. Only the casino and theatre remain undiscovered so far ;)

To conclude, the Kurhaus Hotel is a real Dutch gem. I would truly recommend to anyone to pay a visit and enjoy the royal atmosphere. Make sure you leave your car safe at home though or be prepared to pay 30 euro/day for valet parking.
